Holy Spirit – Avon Lake

Business & Operations Manager Holy Spirit Parish – Avon Lake, Ohio Full-Time (40 hours per week) | Exempt Reports to: Pastor Position

Overview

Holy Spirit Parish in Avon Lake is seeking a qualified Business Manager to support the Pastor in the efficient administration of parish operations. This position provides professional management of financial, administrative aspects of the parish. The business manager fosters effective communication and collaboration with parish staff, parishioners, the Finance Council, diocesan offices, and financial institutions.

Primary Responsibilities

Financial Management • Maintain and monitor financial controls for all parish operations. • Prepare, administer, and review the annual parish budget in collaboration with the Pastor and Finance Council. • Process accounts payable and receivable accurately and on schedule. • Reconcile bank statements and initiate fund transfers as needed. • Manage deposits and ensure fraud-monitoring systems are current with the parish’s financial institution. • Reconcile and retain all credit card statements and receipts. • Record weekly offertory collections and oversee the volunteer counting process. • Ensure accuracy of electronic and returned payments. • Administer all aspects of payroll, including processing, benefits, and employee record updates. • Prepare and submit quarterly diocesan and state reporting. • Complete Unemployment and Worker’s Compensation reports. • Prepare year-end tax forms (including 1099s) and other required filings. • Attend Finance Council and diocesan meetings as needed. • Conduct financial analyses and reporting to support informed decision-making. • Maintain internal controls and policies for the safeguarding of parish assets. • Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement effective expense management. • Serve as liaison to parish ministries and groups regarding financial procedures and approvals. Operations Management • Coordinate with multi-parish operations manager and diocesan facilities staff. • Review major expenditures with the Pastor, Finance Council, and/or diocesan representatives. • Oversee parish technology systems, including IT, phones, and office equipment. • Participate in planning and oversight of parish renovations or improvements. Human Resources • Manage on-boarding of new employees, including verification forms, payroll setup, and benefits enrollment. • Serve as liaison between parish employees and the diocesan Human Resources Office. • Communicate updates and policy changes to staff. • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records.

Qualifications • At least a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field (required). • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in accounting, finance, or operations management (nonprofit or parish experience preferred). • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and accounting software. • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills. • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines. • Commitment to confidentiality, accuracy, and professional integrity. • Familiarity with the Catholic Church’s mission and structure preferred. • Experience with Diocese of Cleveland practices and procedures is advantageous for candidate for the position. • Must pass background check and comply with Diocesan Safe Environment policies. • Must adhere to the Diocesan Code of Conduct. • Some flexibility in works schedule for occasional duties on weekends.
