Parish Summary
The Avon Catholic Community comprises two parishes, St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception and Holy Trinity. Both parishes are located in Avon, Ohio, a suburban community on the west side of the Diocese of Cleveland, serving approximately 3,000+ families.
Position Summary
The Coordinator of Youth Ministry will minister to the youth of the community (high school-aged, junior high school-aged [grades 6–8], and young adults) through vibrant, comprehensive Catholic youth ministry. The goal is to lead teens closer to Christ and form missionary disciples. This individual will serve as a collaborative member of the parish team.
Position Responsibilities
- Partner with the Director of Youth Ministry to plan and facilitate a semester calendar, weekly content, and extra events (retreats, summer conferences, diocesan events, off-site events, etc.).
- Reach out to youth and families to invite them to a personal encounter with Christ, walking with them on their faith journey.
- Form and equip a core team to assist with youth ministry events.
- Maintain a consistent presence at Holy Trinity and St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Schools, fostering relational ministry with 6th–8th grade students.
- Support the Confirmation Preparation Process, including chaperoning the 8th grade Damascus Confirmation retreat.
- Communicate with families and parishioners through Flocknote emails, social media posts, bulletin flyers, and other communication methods.
- Collaborate with the Director of Evangelization on the Bosco/Drexel Summer Mission, VBS, special projects, outreach, and youth engagement.
- Actively collaborate with local parishes and the Diocese of Cleveland Youth Ministry Office, maintaining best practices and utilizing available resources.
- Develop youth leadership and engage youth in diocesan and national events and pilgrimages.
- Maintain a personal relationship with Christ through regular prayer, Mass attendance, spiritual direction, and other spiritual practices.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Faithful, passionate Catholic disciple and role model who recognizes their own need for growth and identity as a child of God first and a minister second.
- Solid understanding of the teachings and theology of the Roman Catholic Church.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills; creative problem solver; enthusiastic collaborator; able to handle confidential information appropriately.
- Ability to discern the needs of a parish community and implement creative solutions.
- Understanding of the discipleship process and willingness to accompany teens in it.
- Ability to interact effectively with youth, parents, staff, and parishioners.
- Strong verbal, written, and social media communication skills; experience with audio/visual technology.
- Understanding of and adherence to all Diocesan Safe Environment standards.
- Personal qualities include being joyful, playful, self-motivated, empathetic, vibrant, energetic, enthusiastic, driven, aspiring, bold, positive, persistent, dedicated, and dependable.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Theology or a related field.
