Assumption CYO Parish Athletic Director Job Description Position Summary The Parish Athletic Director serves as the leader and coordinator of the parish athletic program within the Catholic Youth Organization framework. This individual promotes faith formation, sportsmanship, leadership, and youth development through organized athletics while ensuring alignment with parish values and diocesan/CYO policies. The Athletic Director oversees all parish sports operations including registration, coach coordination, scheduling, communication, compliance, volunteer management, and game-day operations. This position will be a salaried and part-time.
Key Responsibilities Program Leadership & Administration • Organize and oversee all parish athletic programs and seasonal sports • Ensure all athletic activities reflect Catholic values, sportsmanship, and youth development • Serve as the primary liaison between the parish and the CYO athletic office • Attend required CYO meetings, trainings, and parish leadership meetings • Develop annual athletic calendars, budgets, and operational plans Coach & Volunteer Management • Recruit, screen, and support coaches and volunteers • Ensure all coaches complete required background checks, Safe Environment training, and certifications • Provide guidance on athlete development, conduct expectations, and parish mission • Facilitate coach meetings and preseason orientations Registration & Team Operations • Coordinate player registrations, eligibility verification, and roster submissions • Organize team formation, practice schedules, uniforms, and equipment distribution • Maintain accurate athlete, coach, and volunteer records • Communicate schedules, updates, and policies to families Game & Facility Coordination • Schedule practices, games, gym usage, and facility needs • Coordinate scorekeepers, referees, site supervisors, and game-day volunteers • Ensure facilities are safe, organized, and compliant with parish/CYO standards • Manage weather cancellations and rescheduling logistics Financial Oversight • Assist with athletic budgeting and financial planning • Monitor registration fees, equipment purchases, and program expenses • Coordinate fundraising initiatives and sponsorship opportunities as needed Athlete & Parent Engagement • Foster a positive and inclusive athletic culture • Address parent, coach, and athlete concerns professionally and promptly • Promote teamwork, leadership, discipline, and faith-centered competition • Support athlete recognition events, tournaments, and parish athletic celebrations
Qualifications • Strong organizational and leadership skills • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities • Experience in youth athletics, coaching, sports administration, or volunteer leadership preferred • Ability to manage multiple sports seasons and priorities simultaneously • Familiarity with CYO athletics and Catholic parish culture preferred • Proficiency with scheduling platforms, spreadsheets, and digital communication tools • Ability to work evenings and weekends during sports seasons Preferred Characteristics • Practicing Catholic • Preferred, Assumption Parishioner • Passion for youth development and mentorship • Collaborative leadership style • Dependable, approachable, and service-oriented • Ability to build strong relationships with parish families and volunteers Time Commitment Evening and weekend availability is required during active sports seasons.
