About the Position: Saint Ignatius High School, a highly successful Jesuit college preparatory school for boys in grade 6-12 located in Cleveland, Ohio, is seeking an experienced, full-time, Director of Campus Operations to manage physical plant operations across 19 buildings (ranging in age from new to 140+ years old) on 25 acres in the Ohio City neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio. We are seeking a detail oriented, strategic leader with demonstrable experience overseeing large institutional buildings and grounds maintenance, enhancements and day to day operations. Reporting to the Vice President Administration and Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Campus Operations will oversee all aspects of facilities management including strategic planning and execution of maintenance and custodial operations, utility and systems infrastructure, groundskeeping and fleet management, while leading a staff of approximately 25 people, supplementing with external contractors as needed. The successful candidate will balance day-to-day operational leadership with a long-range vision to ensure a safe, efficient, mission-aligned campus environment all within the constraints of an annual operating and capital budget.
The ideal candidate will possess the education and expertise to manage, direct, coordinate, and exercise functional authority for the planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of assigned projects both in-house and with external contractors and have a relentless attention to detail and customer service. This is a 12-month position working through the calendar year. As a Catholic School in the Jesuit tradition, Saint Ignatius has been educating "Men for Others" for 140 years. Primary Areas of Responsibility: Primary areas of responsibility fall into three major categories: Day to day campus operations, Building and systems engineering, Capital projects coordination and oversight
Campus Operations:
- Hire, lead, manage, supervise, and evaluate department staff
- Directly supervise Maintenance Technicians, Lead Groundskeeper and Director of Facilities and Events.
- Ensure staff receive pertinent functional, technical and safety training related to specific job tasks and responsibilities
- Schedule and supervise maintenance staff engaged in building and grounds upkeep and repair, maintenance, inspections and safety
- Collaborate directly with the Vice President of Administration/Chief Finance Officer to develop, manage and monitor departmental budgets
- Order equipment and supplies and monitor inventory
- Hire, schedule, manage, and oversee external contractors (electricians, plumbers, roofers, painters, landscapers, etc.)
- Ensure all required inspections are scheduled and executed timely and in accordance with Federal, State and local regulations (e.g. elevators, fire/life safety, etc.).
- Oversee fleet of 10 school vans and other school owned vehicles
- Ensure the proper disposal of hazardous and controlled wastes in compliance with regulations and guidelines; work directly with outside agencies and local and state health departments as required
- Must be available to address emergencies 24/7
Building and Systems Engineering
- Responsible for developing and executing comprehensive preventative maintenance programs to ensure consistent and efficient operations and maintenance of HVAC systems, fire/life safety systems, electrical systems, elevators and other infrastructure
- Serve as administrator responsible for facility safety and meeting physical ADA compliance standards; works closely with staff and officials to meet compliance and safety requirements
- Develop specifications for cost-effective campus energy management systems; supervise the operations, maintenance and repair of such systems
- Electrical, plumbing, structural, masonry, roofing repair oversight
Capital Projects Coordination and Oversight
- Manage rolling 10-year capital plan aligned with the school's strategic plan and with input from the school President, Principal and other Administrators.
- Prepare specifications for physical plant projects; estimate costs of equipment, materials, labor, and supplies; prepare bid specifications for projects, equipment, and contracted services; oversee site and building projects performed by outside contractors
- Contribute to strategic planning by evaluating and projecting future facility needs and proposing options to achieve them
- Manage annual capital budgets, adjusting as needed for unforeseen required expenditures.
- Work collaboratively with Athletics to identify and prioritize athletic facility upgrades, repairs and enhancements.
- Project manage major renovation or upgrade projects including architect selection, budgeting, bidding, contractor selection, project coordination through completion, change management, punch out and close out.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or related field; or combination of education and experience commensurate with the requirements of this position
- Experience achieved in military, institutional, commercial real estate, or industrial setting a strong plus.
- Ten or more years of progressively more responsible experience in physical plant maintenance, facility services and supervisory experience with demonstrable management level responsibilities.
- Experience in operational and strategic planning as well as budget development
- High level of knowledge and work experience in building engineering including electrical systems; HVAC and controls; Building Automation Systems and operation; plumbing and carpentry; organization, reporting, and interdepartmental communication; computer skills
- Demonstrated written and oral communication skills and experience with executive presentations.
- Demonstrated effective use of office technology tools, including Microsoft Office and Google suites
- Proven organizational, administrative, planning, quality control and customer service skills
- Critical thinker, problem solver and collaborative leader
- Must be able to navigate 25-acre campus on foot, climb up to 6 flights of stairs and handle moderate physical labor without difficulty
