Mission & Community Holy Family Parish is located in Stow, Ohio and we are committed to the values of encountering Jesus Christ, being a welcoming home for individuals and families, Eucharistic Worship, and inspiring saints. Stow is the 3rd most populous city in Summit County, with a median age of 41 years old. We are grateful for our community, which includes young families to those who have worshiped here for multiple generations, some since the parish's founding in 1946. Holy Family Parish has long stood as a vital and dynamic Catholic presence in Stow, helping our community grow in relationship to the Lord. We have benefited over the years from generous and supportive parishioners, dedicated clergy, and staff who strive to help one another grow in holiness and to serve the spiritual formation of our community. Through ongoing discernment and pastoral planning, we are hopeful that our parish will contribute to strengthening the larger Catholic community in the Diocese of Cleveland. We also desire a growing evangelical response from our parish to assist the mission of Jesus Christ in the world today.
Core Responsibilities of the Director of Music Ministry The Music Minister supports and implements the Pastor’s vision for Holy Family Parish in alignment with the mission of the Diocese of Cleveland to form parishioners and students as active and capable disciples of Jesus Christ. This role is a vital ministry, requiring a strong commitment to exemplifying the values and integrity of the Catholic Faith. The Music Minister demonstrates high standards of collegiality, flexibility, and responsibility while providing administrative, instructional, spiritual, and professional leadership. Emphasis on Catholic identity and discipleship in Christ, cultivating a prayerful and vibrant liturgical culture across the entirety of parish life are at the center of this ministry and position. • Spiritual & Liturgical Leadership: Model a visible witness of the Faith and infuse Gospel values across all music ministry. Support the parish’s evangelical mission by bringing parishioners closer to Jesus through the prayerful celebration of the liturgy. Ensure all sacred music meets the Diocese of Cleveland's guidelines for Sunday Masses, funerals, weddings, holy hours, and special or school liturgies. • Musical Excellence & Direction: Oversee curriculum, rehearsals, and performance standards for various parish ensembles. Direct diverse musical groups, including all choir (Sunday choir, handbell choir, funeral choir, and contemporary ensembles.) Train, mentor, and develop adult and youth cantors to maximize their potential as liturgical ministers. • Operational & Musician Management: Oversee the recruitment, and hiring of accompanying musicians. Maintain rigorous Safe Environment standards during all rehearsals and events. Collaborate with parish staff and attend staff meetings. • Youth & School Development: Cultivate a culture of professional and spiritual growth that translates musical expertise into student success. Build, inspire, and sustain vibrant youth choirs for both Holy Family School and parish-wide liturgies. Form young hearts and minds through regular accompaniment, supervision, and faith-based formation. • Parish & Community Engagement: Regularly engage with all stakeholders (parishioners, school families, and staff) to assess musical needs, synthesize feedback, and implement solution- focused suggestions. Offer an active and visible presence in aspects of parish life, building collaborative relationships with volunteers, clergy, and the broader community.
Qualifications • Faith Practicing Christian, with a deep understanding of and commitment to living the teachings of the Catholic Church authentically. • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant musical discipline preferred, with proven mastery of both organ and piano. • Experience: 3+ years of relevant professional or school/parish music ministry leadership is preferred; documented success leading volunteer singers and musicians. • Knowledge: Proficient, deep knowledge of the Church’s liturgical cycles, General Instruction of the Roman Missal (GIRM), and sacred music heritage. • Skills: Proficiency in educational and music technology, collaborating with other ministers within the parish/school, volunteer recruitment, and conflict resolution; high emotional intelligence. Additional Information • Reporting: Reports directly to the Director of Parish Life, while supporting the broader vision of the Pastor. • Direct Reports: Contracted and accompanying musicians, parish choir volunteers. • Physical Demands: Ability to lift liturgical boxes or containers up to 30 lbs; ability to sing and perform musical instruments for extended periods in a standard church and office environment. • Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience; includes full benefits. • Availability: Requires full-time flexibility (40 hours/week) for weekend liturgies, evening rehearsals, and special parish/school events.
