Position: Director of Youth Ministry, Campus Minister

Reports To: Pastor

Status: Full-time, salary/exempt, includes evenings and weekends

Parish Summary:

St. Mary of the Assumption is in need of someone to develop a program to guide our youth on their journey to knowing and loving Christ. St. Mary’s is a strong, family-style community and workplace. Being a part of St. Mary’s means being ready to accept and give help when needed. There is a genuine supportive and open collaboration that takes place between the members of the staff and parishioners. The Parish has a real desire for our youth to become engaged with their parish and to grow in their relationship with God; the youth have shown a thirst for it. These are all new initiatives for the parish and the school. The Parish needs someone willing to enter into this collaborative setting who is capable of launching a program that will guide the parishes and school’s youth into a deeper relationship with God.

Position Summary:

As Director of Youth Ministry, they will connect the middle school students of the school with those of the parish by ministering to them through an active and dynamic youth ministry that will guide them into a deeper relationship with Christ. As the middle school students age into high school, the Director will continue to foster their connection with Christ through a similarly dynamic and active high school youth ministry. The Director of Youth Ministry will also lead them through their preparation for Confirmation. As Campus Minister, they will minister to the middle school [grades 6-8] students of the parish school. They will lead and participate in the middle-school’s spiritual growth by leading and/or teaching bible studies, helping plan Lenten prayer services, supporting their ministry at school masses, etc.

Responsibilities:

  • Director of Youth Ministry
    • Proactively reaching out to youth and families to invite them to opportunities to grow closer to Christ.
    • Plan and lead a dynamic and active youth ministry that guides them in their encounter with Christ, enables them to minister to their parish, and empowers them to be disciples of Christ.
    • Prepare and facilitate programming that includes weekly sessions, spiritual outings, prayer nights, fun evenings and outings, community building opportunities, fall and spring retreats, service opportunities, fund raisers, etc.
    • Plan and facilitate monthly Confirmation sessions.
    • Recruit, train, form, and manage volunteers, including ensuring safe environment standards are kept.
    • Communicate with families, youth, the parish, volunteers, and other staff members about vision, goals, and updates.
    • Develop youth leadership especially in regards to parish and ministerial life.
    • Engage youth in parish life and service and promote Diocesan and national events.
    • Fund-raise for major events and maintain a budget.
  • Campus Minister
    • Collaborate with school staff to assist in the students’ weekly mass preparation.
    • Train and support students in liturgical ministries.
    • Collaborate with teachers and school staff to assist students to both learn about and encounter Christ [head + heart].
    • Be regularly present to the middle school students either in class, at lunch, or during recess.
  • Employee of St. Mary of the Assumption
    • Liturgically minister at Sunday liturgies.
    • Maintain office hours and attend staff meetings.
    • Communicate regularly with the pastor, parish staff, and parishioners.
    • Have regular meetings with the pastor.
    • Be willing to offer and receive help when it is needed/offered.

Qualifications:

  • Actively practicing the Catholic faith.
  • Has a background in, and/or a desire to pursue, Catholic theology.
  • Experience in youth and young adult ministry preferred.
  • Virtus certification/training and fingerprinting will be required.

Range

45,000 — 65,000
