Mater Dei Academy is seeking a dependable, hardworking, and detail-oriented School Custodian to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our students, staff, and visitors. The custodian plays an essential role in the daily operations of our school, ensuring that facilities are sanitary, well-maintained, and secure. Key Responsibilities 1. Cleaning & Sanitation - Clean, sanitize, and stock restrooms daily. - Sweep, mop, vacuum, and buff floors in classrooms, hallways, offices, and common areas. - Empty all interior and exterior trash and recycling bins daily, replacing liners as needed. - Clean and sanitize high-touch surfaces, including drinking fountains, doorknobs, and desk tops. - Clean windows, glass doors, etc. 2. Facilities Maintenance & Setup - Set up and break down tables, chairs, and equipment for school lunches, assemblies, athletic events, and special school functions. - Perform minor routine maintenance tasks, such as replacing lightbulbs, tightening loose screws, and reporting larger repair needs to the Maintenance Manager. - Assist with seasonal deep cleaning projects, including floor stripping, waxing, and carpet cleaning during school breaks. 3. Safety & Security - Maintain clear and safe walkways, including snow and ice removal from entryways during winter months. - Ensure all doors, windows, and gates are properly locked and secured at the end of the shift. - Safely handle, store, and dispose of cleaning chemicals and hazardous materials in accordance with OSHA and school guidelines.
Qualifications & Requirements Experience: Previous commercial cleaning or custodial experience preferred, ideally in a school or institutional setting. Physical Stamina: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly, stand and walk for extended periods, bend, kneel, and climb ladders. Reliability: Strong work ethic, punctuality, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Communication: Ability to read chemical labels, follow safety instructions, and communicate effectively with school staff. Compliance: Must successfully complete all required background checks, fingerprinting, and safe environment training (e.g., VIRTUS) required for working in a school environment. Work Environment & Schedule Hours: Shift hours to be determined based on school needs (typically an afternoon/evening shift during the school year, with flexible daytime hours during summer break).
