Mater Dei Academy is seeking a faith-filled, enthusiastic, and dedicated 5th Grade Teacher to join our upper elementary faculty. Fifth grade is a milestone year at our academy, serving as the bridge where students solidify their foundational skills and transition toward the independence required for middle school. The ideal candidate will cultivate a rigorous academic environment rooted in Catholic values, fostering critical thinking, personal responsibility, and spiritual growth. You will be responsible for teaching core subjects while nurturing a supportive, collaborative, and Christ-centered classroom culture.

Key Responsibilities 1. Faith Formation & Catholic Culture * Integrate Catholic values, teachings, and prayer into the daily classroom routine and academic curriculum. * Guide students in their spiritual and moral development, emphasizing character, kindness, and service to others. * Accompany and supervise students at weekly school Masses and other liturgical celebrations. 2. Instructional Planning & Delivery * Plan and implement a comprehensive, standards-aligned curriculum for 5th grade core subjects (Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies). * Differentiate instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles, providing both enrichment for advanced learners and targeted intervention for students needing support. * Utilize educational technology (such as interactive displays, Chromebooks, and digital learning platforms) to enhance engagement and 21st-century skills. * Incorporate hands-on activities, project-based learning, and critical thinking exercises into daily lessons. 3. Assessment & Classroom Management * Design and administer formative and summative assessments to accurately measure student progress. * Analyze assessment data to drive instructional decisions and provide timely, constructive feedback to students and parents. * Establish a well-structured, positive classroom management system built on mutual respect, high expectations, and accountability. * Help students develop the organizational, time-management, and study skills essential for their upcoming transition to middle school. 4. Collaboration & Professionalism * Maintain open, proactive, and professional communication with parents and guardians regarding academic, social, and behavioral progress. * Collaborate closely with grade-level peers, professional learning communities (PLCs), and intervention specialists to support the holistic needs of every child. * Participate actively in faculty meetings, professional development opportunities, and school-wide community events.

Qualifications & Requirements Education: Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or a related field from an accredited institution. Certification: Valid State Teaching License appropriate for 5th grade (e.g., K-5, K-8, or 4-9 targeted endorsement). Preferred: Practicing Catholic in good standing, committed to the mission of Catholic education.

Experience: Previous classroom teaching experience in an upper elementary setting (grades 3–5) is highly desirable. Compliance: Must successfully complete FBI/BCI background checks, fingerprinting, and safe environment training (e.g., VIRTUS) prior to employment. Core Competencies Nurturing Educator: Ability to guide pre-teens through a year of significant social, emotional, and academic growth with patience and empathy. Effective Communicator: Strong interpersonal skills to partner effectively with parents, colleagues, and administration.
