The Jesuit Retreat Center, located in Parma, Ohio, is seeking a dependable, welcoming, and service-oriented Guestmaster/Caretaker to join our ministry of hospitality.

This unique on-site, part-time position is primarily a ministry of presence, providing a warm welcome to guests while ensuring the comfort, safety, and smooth operation of the retreat center during evenings and weekends.

About the Jesuit Retreat Center

The Jesuit Retreat Center is the longest continuously operating retreat center in the United States, welcoming more than 5,000 guests each year.

Approximately 75% of our guests participate as members of high school, college, parish, church, and other hosted groups, while the remaining 25% attend Jesuit Retreat Center-sponsored retreats and spiritual programs.

Our center welcomes individuals for day retreats, overnight retreats, weekend programs, and extended retreats throughout the year.

Position Summary

The Guestmaster/Caretaker serves as the evening and weekend on-site representative of the Jesuit Retreat Center when other staff members are unavailable.

Working alongside another Guestmaster, this position provides a dependable on-site presence, warmly welcomes guests, and responds to occasional after-hours needs or emergencies while helping create a peaceful, hospitable retreat environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary on-site presence during assigned evenings and weekends.
• Welcome retreatants and provide friendly, courteous hospitality.
• Respond to occasional guest needs and after-hours concerns.
• Monitor the facility and assist with ensuring a safe and secure environment.
• Provide support during unexpected situations or emergencies.
• Help maintain the peaceful atmosphere that allows guests to focus on prayer, reflection, and renewal.
• Collaborate with fellow Guestmasters and retreat center staff to ensure excellent guest experiences.

Qualifications
Required

• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Flexible, dependable, and able to work evenings and weekends.
• Friendly, welcoming personality with excellent interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage a variety of responsibilities with professionalism and sound judgment.
• Successful completion of background check and reference verification prior to employment.
