Cleveland Central Catholic High School:
Founded in 1969, Cleveland Central Catholic High School is a diocesan-owned, co-educational, comprehensive high school with a focus on college and career readiness, committed to leading young adults to Christ in an environment where they are learning to lead and preparing to serve. With a population of 430 students in grades nine through twelve, Cleveland Central Catholic High School provides young women and men with a nurturing and supportive educational environment in which to grow academically, spiritually, socially, and morally.
Position Overview:
The primary function of the Guidance Counselor is to work with students, families, teachers, and administration in implementing the guidance program for Cleveland Central Catholic High School. The program includes but is not limited to counseling students in the areas of academics, career, and social-emotional domains.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish and implement a program to support student learning.
- In collaboration with parents/guardians, assist students as they develop academic and future goals.
- Assist teachers in identifying students who need additional academic supports.
- Plan interventions, accommodations and modifications to maximize the likelihood of student success.
- Implement and monitor academic and/or behavioral interventions.
- Provide mediation for behavioral change.
- Arranges and participates in parent/student/faculty conferences.
- Coordinate and implement testing programs and interprets test results to students, parents, and staff.
- Monitor student records and provide information for college transcript and post high school student applications.
- Coordinate off-campus college visits and schedule on-campus visits of college admissions officers.
- Coordinate and disseminate information regarding graduation requirements, course descriptions, and course selection.
- Conduct orientation programs for new students and transition programs for students who are graduating.
- Assist with crisis intervention.
- Assist students with social-emotional issues and offer referral options to outside counseling.
- Communicates effectively with all internal and external stakeholders.
- Coordinate with faculty and staff concerning student achievement and other needs.
- Other duties as assigned by the Principal or his/her delegate.
Qualifications:
- Familiarity with Catholic teachings, values, and formation of students in Catholic schools. Ability to support the mission and values of the Catholic Church and align speech and behaviors with Catholic teachings and values.
- Bachelor’s degree in student services, education, administration, other relevant degree. Master’s degree preferred.
- Two to three years of experience in guidance office functions or other relevant division.
- Excellent written and verbal communication knowledge and skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft or Google docs, spreadsheets, and presentation software.
- Demonstrated success in meeting deadlines on multiple, concurrent projects.
- Experience working in a multicultural environment. Preferred but not required: bilingual in Spanish.
- Reliable transportation for travel throughout Cuyahoga County and surrounding counties as needed.
- Availability and ability to perform responsibilities during the day as well as nights and weekends as required.
- Successful BCI and FBI background checks and VIRTUS certified or willing to be certified.
