Position Title: School Guidance Counselor Status: Full-Time Teacher- Minister Contract, 10-Month Employee Location: Gesu Catholic School, University Heights, Ohio Position Summary: The School Guidance Counselor supports the academic, social-emotional, behavioral, and spiritual development of students in grades Kindergarten through Grade 8. Working in partnership with school administration, faculty, parents, parish staff, and community agencies, the counselor provides a comprehensive school counseling program that reflects the mission and values of Catholic education. The counselor promotes student success by helping students develop positive relationships, resilience, self-awareness, responsible decision-making, and a strong sense of faith and service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Student Support and Counseling Provide (short-term) individual and small-group counseling for students experiencing academic, social, emotional, behavioral, or family-related challenges. Assist students in developing coping skills, conflict-resolution strategies, self-regulation, and positive peer relationships. Respond to student crises and collaborate with administration, families, and outside agencies as appropriate. Maintain appropriate documentation and confidentiality in accordance with professional standards and applicable laws. School Counseling Program Develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive K–8 school counseling program aligned with best practices and the mission of Catholic education. Deliver classroom guidance lessons addressing topics such as social-emotional learning, digital citizenship, character development, virtue formation, and healthy decision-making. Coordinate age-appropriate programs and activities that support student wellness and personal growth. Assist with the development and implementation of behavioral intervention and student support plans. Collaboration and Consultation Partner with teachers and administrators to identify student needs and develop strategies that promote student success. Consult with parents regarding student concerns and provide referrals to outside resources when long-term or specialized support is needed. Participate in student intervention meetings, accommodations planning, and multidisciplinary team discussions. Maintain strong communication with faculty, families, parish staff, and community organizations. Catholic Identity and Mission Support and promote the Catholic mission, philosophy, and values of the school. Integrate Catholic teachings, virtues, and Gospel values into counseling services and student interactions. Serve as a positive witness to the Catholic faith and contribute to the faith-filled culture of the school. Administrative Responsibilities Maintain counseling records and prepare reports as required. Coordinate referrals to community agencies, mental health professionals, and support services. Assist with student attendance, behavioral concerns, and crisis response planning. Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.

Qualifications Required Master’s Degree in School Counseling, Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field. Valid Ohio School Counselor License or eligibility for licensure. Successful completion of BCI/FBI background checks and compliance with diocesan safe environment requirements. Demonstrated knowledge of child and adolescent development. Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and collaboration skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise professional judgment. Preferred Experience working with elementary and middle school students. Experience in a Catholic school environment. Familiarity with MTSS, intervention planning, and social-emotional learning programs.
