POSITION OVERVIEW The Head Football Coach is responsible for leading and developing the STVM football program in alignment with the school’s mission, values, and traditions of excellence. The coach will foster a culture of integrity, teamwork, academic achievement, and sportsmanship; mentoring student-athletes to grow in skill, character, and faith both on and off the field. ________________________________________
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Program Leadership & Vision ● Lead, organize, and oversee all aspects of the football program, including varsity, junior varsity, and freshman levels. ● Develop and communicate a program vision that emphasizes discipline, respect, faith, teamwork, and excellence consistent with the Marianist mission of STVM. ● Establish short- and long-term goals that support the school’s academic, athletic, and spiritual priorities. ● Collaborate with the Athletic Director and administrative leadership to ensure program alignment with school-wide objectives. Coaching & Player Development ● Design and implement effective practice plans, game strategies, and year-round conditioning programs. ● Instruct, mentor, and inspire student-athletes to reach their full potential athletically and personally. ● Evaluate player performance, providing constructive feedback and individualized development plans. ● Promote academic accountability, ensuring all players meet OHSAA and STVM eligibility standards. ● Teach and model good sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect for officials, opponents, and the game. Staff Leadership & Development ● Recruit, supervise, and mentor assistant coaches across all levels of the program. ● Foster collaboration, consistency, and professional growth among coaching staff. ● Ensure all coaches uphold school and OHSAA regulations, policies, and values. ● Encourage a unified approach to training, player evaluation, and program philosophy. Program Administration ● Manage scheduling, equipment, facilities, and transportation in coordination with the Athletic Department. ● Oversee the program budget, fundraising initiatives, and booster engagement in collaboration with school leadership. ● Maintain accurate records for rosters, statistics, equipment inventory, and compliance documentation. ● Coordinate closely with the Athletic Trainer regarding player safety, injury prevention, and return-to-play protocols. Culture & Community Engagement ● Serve as a visible, positive ambassador of STVM within the school, parish, and greater Akron community. ● Build strong relationships with student-athletes, parents, alumni, and supporters of the football program. ● Promote the program through appropriate media, social media, and community channels in coordination with the school’s Marketing & Communications Office. ● Collaborate with the Enrollment team to promote the value of the STVM experience and strengthen relationships with families, feeder schools, and the broader community. ● Participate in school-wide events, liturgies, assemblies, and service opportunities to model faith-based leadership. ● Support the Marianist mission and identity of St. Vincent–St. Mary by fostering humility, service, and community spirit. ________________________________________
QUALIFICATIONS ● Minimum of 3 years of head coaching experience at the varsity or collegiate level, or proven track record as a top coordinator or associate head coach. ● Demonstrated success in building and sustaining a high-character, high-performing program. ● Comprehensive knowledge of football rules, techniques, and modern coaching strategies. ● Proven ability to attract, motivate, and develop players and coaches. ● Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills. ● Commitment to academic excellence and faith-based education. ● CPR, First Aid, and all OHSAA coaching certifications are required prior to start. ● Bachelor’s degree required. ________________________________________

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS ● Ability to visually monitor athletes and demonstrate football techniques. ● Frequent standing, walking, running, lifting, and movement of equipment (up to 50 lbs). ● Frequent evenings, weekends, and extended hours required for practices, competitions, and travel. ● Ability to maintain emotional composure and decision-making under competitive and high-stress situations.
