Position Summary
The Housekeeper/Custodian provides routine cleaning and light maintenance for parish facilities, including the Rectory, Church, parish offices, and meeting areas. This position ensures a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for clergy, staff, parishioners, and visitors.
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform general cleaning and housekeeping duties for the Rectory and clergy living quarters (bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, dining area, laundry, linens, etc.).
- Clean and maintain Church, Sacristy, Sanctuary, parish offices, restrooms, meeting rooms, hallways, and other shared spaces.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors; dust furniture and fixtures; replace votive candles, clean windows and doors.
- Dispose of trash and recycling in accordance with parish procedures.
- Maintain cleaning supplies and report repair or supply needs promptly.
- Set up and take down tables, chairs, and equipment for parish events or meetings as needed.
- Perform light maintenance (e.g., changing light bulbs, replacing filters, small repairs).
- Assist with seasonal cleaning or decorating tasks (e.g., Christmas, Easter).
- Ensure facilities are secure at the end of each shift.
- Follow all parish and diocesan safety, confidentiality, and conduct guidelines.
Qualifications
- Prior experience in custodial, housekeeping, or facility maintenance preferred.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect clergy living spaces.
- Reliable, trustworthy, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Capable of performing physical tasks such as lifting, bending, standing, and using cleaning equipment.
- Commitment to supporting the mission and values of the Catholic Church.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach throughout the workday.
- Frequently lift and carry cleaning supplies, tools, and materials up to 25 pounds; occasionally lift up to 50 pounds with assistance.
- Ability to climb stairs, step stools, or ladders as needed to clean or access storage areas.
- Manual dexterity and coordination sufficient to operate cleaning equipment (vacuum, floor buffer, mop, etc.).
- Tolerance for exposure to typical cleaning chemicals and disinfectants (with proper protective equipment provided).
- Ability to perform repetitive cleaning motions and maintain attention to detail for extended periods.
- Must be able to work in varying indoor environments (rectory, church, offices) and occasionally in outdoor conditions for entryways or parish grounds.

Working Conditions
- Part-time, weekday schedule (flexible based on parish needs).
