Saint Joseph Academy, the only all girls Catholic High School in Cleveland, is currently seeking qualified candidates for the part time position of Lead Bus Driver. The Lead Bus Driver reports to the Principal/Administrative Assistant to the Principal . This part time position requires skilled work in the operation of light and heavy school buses and vans in transporting students to and from school events such as sporting events and field trips. This position includes training new drivers. Maintenance runs are also part of this position. Position includes weekend and evening work, including some work over school breaks. Student safety is of utmost importance. This position qualifies for employee tuition reimbursement and for discounted Saint Joseph Academy tuition for daughter(s).
Essential Skills -Knowledge of traffic and highway safety rules and regulations and of the precautions necessary to avoid accidents -Ability to operate a bus in a safe and economical manner -Ability to understand and carry out instructions and to perform work requiring good physical condition -Strong verbal and written communication skills -Attention to detail -Ability to work independently and as part of a team -Highly organized -Ability to relate to students, parents, faculty and coaches -Commitment to the Catholic education of young women in the tradition of the Congregation of St. Joseph Primary Duties and Responsibilities -Transports students to and from school events, following a preplanned route according to a definite time schedule -Regulates heating equipment and ventilation of bus for comfort of passengers -Drives bus carefully and in compliance with traffic regulations -Assumes responsibility for the safety of students in loading, unloading and transporting them to and from school events -Instructs students in safety precautions and practices -Signals students when to cross street or highway and assures that students are safely across upon departure from bus -Maintains discipline; reports unruly behavior to Assistant Principal for Student Success -Manages, coordinates, and organizes the weekly schedule for all school-related activities, adjusting it as necessary when event details change. -Communicates effectively with all drivers about the weekly schedule. -Collaborates with the Principal's Administrative Assistant and the Athletic Department to address transportation details and requirements. -Coordinates and schedules with Third Party Vendors when additional outside transportation is needed for an event. -Inspects and sweeps bus -Checks water, gas, oil and mechanical condition before leaving on run -Reports delays and accidents. Keeps operational records and makes simple reports. -Supervise recording of mileage and hours for all bus drivers and provide finance reporting to ensure proper recording of expenses -Supervise drivers and ensure licensing and physicals are up to date -Ensure maintenance records are up to date and inspections are scheduled and completed appropriately -Communicate with Bus mechanic as necessary to ensure smooth operation of buses and vans
Requirements -Appropriate State of Ohio Commercial Driver license for school bus and passenger operation or ability to obtain which will be compensated -Graduation from high school or completion of GED -Completion of first aid and driving courses or ability to obtain which will be compensated -Must pass criminal background checks and have a good driving record with no DUI convictions
