The Diocese of Cleveland was founded on April 23, 1847. Under the leadership of the Most Reverend Edward C. Malesic, Bishop of Cleveland, it is the twenty-third largest diocese in the United States. Title of position: Tribunal Case Manager (Auditor)
Position Summary: A Tribunal case manager assists the judge in managing and investigating cases of nullity of marriage adjudicated by the Tribunal. A case manager must work compassionately with people who might be anxious, frustrated or angry while also following required procedures. This position could suit an applicant with experience working in social services, the legal system, or customer service.
Responsibilities:
- Liaise with clients and parish ministers.
- Proactively track the progress of cases and complete necessary follow-up within reasonable time.
- Receive telephone messages and return calls promptly.
- Process incoming mail for each case including any follow-up work necessary.
- Interview clients in person, by telephone or by video call regarding their marriages.
- Confer regularly with judge(s) and proceed according to the instructions received.
- Summarize written testimony.
- Assist other case managers when needed.
- Read and study selected canonical works on marriage.
- Understand the ministry of the Tribunal regarding marriage (invalidity of marriage, dispensations, prohibitions, etc.).
- Participate in regular Tribunal staff meetings, educational sessions, and events.
- Occasional meetings with clients at parishes and/or outside of regular business hours.
- Conduct basic research of public records including civil, criminal and marriage records as relevant.
- Other duties as assigned.
Essential qualities:
- A Catholic in full communion with the Catholic Church and accepting of the teachings of the Catholic Church, especially regarding marriage. Eligible to be appointed to the ecclesiastical office of Auditor (canon 1428, 1983 Code of Canon Law).
- Exceptional interpersonal skills.
- Excellent English grammar and composition.
- Outstanding organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to prioritize without continuous supervision.
- Competence in Microsoft Word and familiarity with Outlook.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
Desirable qualities:
- Degree or coursework in theology, religious studies, or a similar field, or demonstrated equivalent understanding of the teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Experience in pastoral ministry.
