Saint Joseph Academy is seeking candidates for the position of Vice President of Finance. This is a Leadership position reporting to the President and supervising Finance Staff. Position Overview The Vice President of Finance serves as the Academy’s chief financial officer and is a senior member of the administrative leadership team. The VP of Finance provides strategic and operational financial leadership to ensure the long-term financial sustainability of the Academy in support of its mission and strategic priorities. Reporting to the President, the Vice President of Finance oversees all financial functions of the Academy, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, cash and investment management, tuition and financial aid administration, audit, risk management, and compliance. The VP of Finance serves as the primary staff liaison to the Board of Directors’ Finance and Investment Committees and supports the Board in fulfilling its fiduciary responsibilities.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities Strategic Financial Leadership ● Serve as a strategic partner to the President and senior leadership team on financial planning, policy development, and decision-making. ● Lead long-range financial planning, including multi-year forecasting, enrollment-based modeling, tuition strategy, and scenario analysis. ● Support institutional strategic planning through financial analysis and risk assessment. ● Recognize and adapt to changes in funding of Non-profit independent schools in collaboration with the President, senior leadership and the Board of Directors. ● Ensure alignment of financial goals with the mission of the organization and the students served Financial Operations and Reporting ● Establish and maintain sound financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard Academy assets and ensure financial integrity. ● Responsible for oversight of the day to day operations of the Finance Department and ensuring excellent customer service and support of faculty, staff, students and families. ● Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable and financial controls ● Ensure timely and accurate filling of required tax documentation ● Manage the Finance Department, including supervision, development, and evaluation of finance staff. ● Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP, as well as requested ad hoc reporting and forecasting. ● Prepare and present financial reports and analyses to the President, senior leadership team, Finance Committee, Investment Committee, and Board of Directors. Budgeting, Tuition, and Financial Aid ● Lead the annual operating and capital budgeting process in collaboration with senior leadership and department heads. ● Oversee tuition billing, collections, and receivables, working closely with the Controller and finance staff. ● Partner with Admissions and School Administration to ensure clear communication and support for current and prospective students and families navigating the financial aid process ● Manage the Scholarship and Tuition Assistance process in partnership with the Scholarship Committee, ensuring transparency, equity, and alignment with institutional mission. ● Oversee financial aid modeling and analysis to support enrollment and retention goals. ● Collaborate with Institutional Advancement to provide fundraising support and ensure proper accounting for restricted and unrestricted giving including providing accurate reporting ● Coordinate with the Director of Facilities and Board committee to ensure long term capital improvements are planned and budged for, including any capital campaigns. Cash, Investments, and Risk Management ● Oversee cash management, treasury functions, and banking relationships to ensure adequate liquidity and strong cash flow. ● Serve as staff liaison to the Investment Committee, supporting oversight of endowment and other invested assets in collaboration with external advisors. ● Manage risk management activities, including insurance coverage, leases, and contractual review. Audit, Compliance, and Governance Support ● Manage the annual audit process and serve as primary liaison with external auditors. ● Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, accreditation standards, and nonprofit best practices. ● Support Board and committee governance by preparing financial materials, analyses, and presentations as needed.
Qualifications ● Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required ● Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive financial leadership experience, preferably in a school or nonprofit organization ● CPA or advanced degree strongly preferred
