"Extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion (emHCs) should receive sufficient spiritual, theological and practical preparation to fulfill their role with knowledge and reverence."
EMHC's are formally recognized after they have participated in diocesan formation for this ministry; they are then commissioned in their parish or institutions by the pastor or his equivalent.
The Office for Worship offers formation sessions for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion typically in the Spring and Fall. Those who are interested in attending should talk to their pastor/administrator, who can arrange for registration as appropriate. Once formation sessions are scheduled, they are announced in the Diocesan Memorandum, on this website, and in a memo sent to the parishes with the registration instructions. Thank you for your interest in this ministry!
