"Extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion (emHCs) should receive sufficient spiritual, theological and practical preparation to fulfill their role with knowledge and reverence."
(Instruction: Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion Assisting at Mass and Communion of the Sick in the Diocese of Cleveland, 7)
EMHC's are formally recognized after they have participated in diocesan formation for this ministry; they are then commissioned in their parish or institutions by the pastor or his equivalent.
The Office for Worship offers formation sessions for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion throughout the year. Those who are interested in attending should talk to their pastor/administrator, who can arrange for registration as appropriate. Once formation sessions are scheduled, they are announced in the Diocesan Memorandum, on this website, and in a memo sent to the parishes with the registration instructions. Thank you for your interest in this ministry!
Following are the upcoming formation sessions for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. Additional dates and locations will be added later in the year.
