Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School (VASJ) is a Diocesan–owned, comprehensive, co–educational, Catholic high school committed to academic excellence and the development of students’ faith and gifts. Enrollment is 450 students in grades 9 through 12.

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Cleveland was founded on April 23, 1847. Under the leadership of the Most Reverend Edward C. Malesic, Bishop of Cleveland, it is the 23rd largest diocese in the United States and encompasses the counties of Cuyahoga, Summit, Lorain, Lake, Geauga, Medina, Wayne, and Ashland. Description:

The Dean of Academics has the overall responsibility to the administrative team to provide administrative service and academic support to students, and to assist VASJ in narrowing achievement gaps for all students. This position will provide support in the areas of curriculum, assessment, and planning. The Academic Dean will collaborate with the Counseling, Special Education, Directed Studies and Admissions Departments as described below.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with the Assistant Principal in overseeing the academic matters of the school.
  • Write and maintain bell schedules in PowerSchool and the bell system.
  • Coordination of:
    • Mid-quarter academic review
    • Academic probation review
    • Test schedules – quarter, semester
    • Ineligibility reports
    • After school tutoring
  • Provide support with:
    • Graduation and Baccalaureate
    • Preparation of the Master Schedule
    • Parent-Teacher conferences
  • Coordinate semester exam schedules.
  • Support counseling with schedule changes throughout the year.
  • Regularly communicate with parents regarding student progress
  • Communicate with athletic trainers, nurse, and teachers to support students who have temporary interventions due to injury or illness.
  • Produce quarter and semester reports.
  • Preparation of academic probation lists and letters.
  • Provide input for yearly updates for the Student Handbook.
  • Serve as the administrative presence in student and parent conferences dealing with academics.
  • Assist with supervision at after-school events.
  • Work with the Athletic Director to ensure the academic eligibility of all Athletes using VASJ and the Ohio High School Athletic Association standards.
  • Collaborate with the Counseling Department weekly regarding Academic Interventions and work as a liaison between Counseling and the Classroom Teachers.
  • Assist the Admissions Department with the review of prospective students Academic Files including Individual Education Plans, accommodation plans, and placement of classes.
  • Oversee and coordinate after school tutoring and intervention programs.
  • Membership on: Administrative Team, Academic Council and Intervention Assistance Team.
  • Performance of other duties as assigned by the Assistant Principal and Principal.

Job requirements:

  • Appropriate license or approved non-tax license
  • Bachelor’s degree, Masters preferred
  • Able to pass FBI/BCI background check
  • Uphold the values of the Catholic faith
  • VIRTUS certified or willing to be certified
  • Experience working in an urban high school setting
