Position Summary

St. Vincent-St. Mary High School is seeking a dedicated, knowledgeable, and student-centered Sports Performance Assistant to support the Director of Sports Performance in developing and implementing strength and conditioning programs for all school-sanctioned male and female athletic programs.

The successful candidate will independently execute assigned training sessions, supervise after-school weight training programs, assist with strength training classes, and collaborate with coaches, athletic trainers, and sports medicine personnel. This individual will help create a safe, disciplined, motivating, and athlete-centered training environment while supporting STVM's Catholic and Marianist mission of educating the whole person—mind, body, and spirit.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Assist in designing and implementing strength training and conditioning programs for school-sanctioned athletic programs.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Sports Performance to develop training schedules.

  • Attend and supervise after-school weight training programs.

  • Assist with weight training classes during the school day as assigned.

  • Provide full attention and supervision to student-athletes during workouts.

  • Work collaboratively with sports medicine and athletic training staff in the rehabilitation and strengthening of injured athletes.

  • Foster positive collaboration among sport coaches, sports medicine personnel, and strength and conditioning staff.

  • Assist in developing policies and procedures consistent with NSCA Strength and Conditioning Professional Standards Guidelines.

  • Work with coaches to establish systems for tracking athlete attendance and progress.

  • Establish and reinforce expectations for athlete conduct consistent with the school's Student Code of Conduct.

  • Establish and communicate weight room rules, guidelines, and expectations.

  • Encourage athletic teams to utilize the weight room during both in-season and off-season periods.

  • Assist in communicating strength and conditioning objectives to coaches and athletes.

  • Assist with special events, banquets, signing days, recognitions, and speaker events.

  • Assist with summer camps as needed.

  • Independently execute assigned training sessions, station assignments, and coaching responsibilities according to established session plans and staff assignment matrices.

  • Actively coach and manage assigned athlete groups while maintaining a safe, focused, and controlled training environment.

  • Remain at assigned stations and maintain professional, athlete-centered conduct throughout training sessions.

  • Demonstrate sound judgment and situational awareness when interacting with athletes, coaches, and staff.

  • Take initiative to identify and resolve routine coaching and operational issues.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director and/or Principal.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology or a related field.

  • Current professional strength and conditioning certification from an independent accreditation agency, such as the NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) credential.

  • Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications.

  • Strong knowledge of strength training principles, analysis, and techniques.

  • Experience with strength and conditioning programming for high school athletes.

  • Demonstrated ability to independently lead and manage group strength and conditioning sessions.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong motivational and leadership abilities.

  • Ability to interact positively with student-athletes, colleagues, coaches, and the public.

  • Knowledge of NSCA Strength and Conditioning Professional Standards and Guidelines.

  • Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions.

  • Ability to maintain command presence and effectively manage athlete behavior in a group training environment.

Physical Requirements

The position requires the ability to:

  • Work in school, office, athletic, and training environments.

  • Visually monitor student-athletes during training.

  • Stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.

  • Demonstrate appropriate strength training techniques.

  • Move quickly when necessary during training activities.

  • Lift, carry, and move work-related supplies and equipment.

  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Travel

Travel to school buildings, work assignments, meetings, and other locations is required as needed.

Range
