Ending Human Trafficking to be discussed at this year's Lake/Geauga annual Peace and Justice Awards

News of the Diocese

April 18, 2012

(The Center for Pastoral Leadership in Wickliffe, Ohio)

The Catholic Commission of Lake and Geauga Counties is pleased to announce Jim Clements, Director, Catholic Charities Community Services of Lake & Geauga Counties and Jan Geho, who served on the staff of Divine Word Parish and was responsible for many outreach initiatives, are the 2012 Peace & Justice Award recipients.

Clements and Geho will receive the awards at the 22nd Annual Peace & Justice Dinner and Silent Auction of the Catholic Commission, which is set for Saturday, April 28 at 6:00 p.m. at the Center for Pastoral Leadership/Founder's Room, located on 28700 Euclid Avenue in Wickliffe.  Tickets are $35 and can be reserved by calling 440-943-7608 or e-mailing jwalcott@clevelandcatholiccharities.org.

The Sowers of Justice Award will go to Mr. Clements, a life-long resident of Willoughby in Lake County, who began his work with Catholic Charities in Lake County in 1977, and expanded the outreach of Catholic Charities to include Geauga County.  Catholic Chartities, which serves the eight counties of the diocese, will be highlighted as the organization celebrates its 100th anniversary of providing ongoing services to children, to those who need emergency assistance, to persons with disabilities and to older adults, and are provided to anyone regardless of their personal creed or beliefs.

Jan Geho will receive the Sowers of Justice Individual Award for her tireless commitment to develop the Divine Word-St. Philip Neri Parish to Parish Partnership.  She organized numerous outreach opportunities, raised awareness of social justice issues and brought speakers and resources to the parish, particularly in the areas of human trafficking, climate change and the need for comprehensive immigration reform.

The evening begins with a social hour and silent auction at 6:00 p.m., followed by dinner at 7:00 p.m., and the program at 8:00 p.m.  Notre Dame Sisters Laura Wingert and Barbara Daugherty are the evening speakers on the topic of The Initiatives of the Collaboration to End Human Trafficking.
