Ribbon cutting ceremony showcased colorful makeover at Archbishop Lyke Elementary Campus

News of the Diocese

April 19, 2012

Ceremony was on Monday, April 23 at 9:00 a.m.

Representatives from Glidden Paint, the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Lake Erie Monsters cut a ribbon into the school showcasing the results of the Colorful Community Contest to the students and friends of Archbishop Lyke School (Elementary Campus) located at 18230 Harvard Avenue in Cleveland on Monday, April 23, 2012 at 9:00 a.m.

As a part of its ongoing commitment to adding color to the community, AkzoNobel, under its Glidden Paint brand, the Cavaliers and the Monsters painted the gymnasium, cafeteria and hallways at Archbishop Lyke School, focusing on the gymnasium, which was converted from a church sanctuary.  Employee volunteers from each of the organizations painted an image of a phoenix, the school's mascot, along with a basketball on walls in the gymnasium.  They used more than 15 colors of Glidden paint and four plastic inlays to create an illusion of a stained glass in the gymnasium where Mass is celebrated for the school.  The school's cafeteria, multi-purpose room and main hallways also benefited from an application of bright fresh hues.  Fifty gallons of paint and primer were used to complete the task.

Last month, Cavaliers and Monsters fans selected Archbishop Lyke School from three semifinals during an online voting contest.  More than 37,000 fans participated in the contest and Archbishop Lyke School garnered 54.9 % of the votes.

"Glidden is committed to supporting education in Northeast Ohio," said Eric Stasiowski, director of communications for AkzoNobel.  "Through our partnership with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Lake Erie Monsters, we're adding color to the community in which we work and live."
