This weekend, we celebrate Mother's Day. May, a month associated with new life, is traditionally dedicated to Mary, our heavenily mother. As we give thanks for our mothers, grandmothers and other special women in our lives, we pray that God will continue to bless them as they strive to live by the example of Mary, Mother of God.
In addition, with Vatican approval, the ?Rite for the Blessing of a Child in the Womb? is now available for use by dioceses in the United States.
?We hope the use of this blessing will provide not only support and God?s blessing for expectant parents and their child in the womb, but also another effective witness to the sanctity of human life from the first moment of conception,? said Archbishop Gregory M. Aymond, chairman of the Committee on Divine Worship of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).
Parishes who plan to use the "Rite for the Blessing of a Child in the Womb" on Mother's Day Weekend can find information (including a bi-lingual version) by clicking here.
