Catholic Charities opens Geauga county Senior housing

Bishop Lennon, County Commissioners, and Middlefield Mayor hosted Ribbon Cutting


(Middlefield, Ohio) - Ribbon cutting and dedication ceremonies took place on Friday, August 24, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the new CASA LUCIA senior apartments located immediately adjacent to St. Lucy Catholic Church at 16246 East High Street (Ohio Route 87) in Middlefield, Ohio.

The $5.9 million dollar project is the first of its type built by Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Cleveland in Geauga county and will contain 34 units in a two story, elevator building.  It will house seniors 55+ who meet income guidelines.

Those attending the ribbon cutting and dedication included Most Rev. Richard Lennon, Bishop of Cleveland;  Geauga County Commissioners Walter Claypool, Tracy Jemison, and Mary Samide;  Middlefield Mayor Ben Garlich;  Rev. John Burkley, Pastor of St. Lucy/St. Edward Catholic parish; and Rev. Harry Winca, Pastor Emeritus of St. Lucy/St. Edward.


Larry Murtaugh, Executive Director of the Diocese of Cleveland Facilities Services Corporation commented on the opening, ?After many years of planning, we are thrilled to see the completion of Casa Lucia.  This has truly been a shared effort by so many and will serve seniors in Geauga County for many years to come.  Casa Lucia offers so many superb amenities but mostly it is a wonderful place to now call ?home?.?

The complex was developed by Catholic Charities Housing Corporation with funding from the Ohio Housing Finance Agency and the Ohio Department of Development along with Key Bank?s Department of Community Development.  The General Contractor is Testa Companies of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.

 

The facility includes a large community room for resident activities, large patio, second floor gathering area with a fireplace, indoor mail boxes, and gardening area for the residents.
