The Lawyers Guild of the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland gathers for the annual Red Mass.
Judges, lawyers and other faithful gathered for the annual Red Mass on Friday, October 19th. The special liturgy invokes the blessing and guidance of the Holy Spirit upon the courts of the State.
The Most Reverend Richard G. Lennon, Bishop of Cleveland, was the principal celebrant for this annual celebration.
Click PLAY for a part of Bishop Gries' Homily Auxiliary Bishop Roger Gries, OSB, delivered the homily during which he reflected on Catholics role in society and the judicial process.
Bishop Gries concluded his remarks with the Prayer of St. Thomas More:
Lord, grant that I may be able in argument,
accurate in analysis,
strict in study,
candid with clients,
and honest with adversaries.
Sit with me at my desk and listen with me to my client's plaints.
Read with me in the library, and stand beside me in court,
so that today I shall not, in order to win point, lose my soul.
Amen.
