Bishop Lennon to open and close A Forum on Race - April 19-20 in Cleveland

A Forum on Race, Amazing Grace will be held in downtown Cleveland on the evening of Friday, April 19 and will resume in the morning on Saturday, April 20, 2013.

Amazing Grace: Enrich, Embrace, Empower will take place at the Doubletree by Hilton Downtown, 1111 Lakeside Avenue, Cleveland, OH.  The deadline for registration is Friday, April 5, 2013.

The Forum on Race is open for all to attend.  Reasons for attending:  Enrich an appreciation of how deeply rooted racism is in our society and knowledge of how white privilege shapes society and recognize its effects;  Embrace the role of the church in helping people to survive, resist and overcome racial oppression;  Empower oneself through learning, dialogue and action.

Those attending the racism conference will have the option of choosing six different workshop tracks.  Track 1: Immigration and Race;  Track 2: The Intersection of the Church and Lived Reality;  Track 3: The Welcoming Role of Faith Communities;  Track 4: The American Justice System: Justice or "Just Us'?;  Track 5: Embracing Strategies for Education; and Track 6: Going Forward in Faith.

Schedule:
On Friday evening, registration to attend the Forum will begin at 6:00 p.m.  Most Reverend Richard Lennon, Bishop of Cleveland will then welcome those in attendance at 7:00 p.m.  Evening prayer will follow and Reverend Bryan Massingale, S.T.D., Professor, Department of Theology, Marquette University will then deliver the evening's keynote address at 7:30 p.m.  Following the keynote address a social for all in attendance will begin at 8:15 p.m.

On Saturday morning, registration to attend the Forum will begin at 7:30 a.m.  A continental breakfast will be served beginning at 8:00 a.m.  Welcome and morning prayer will begin at 9:00 a.m.  Sr. Rita Mary Harwood, SND, Secretary, Parish Life and Development, Diocese of Cleveland will then deliver the morning's keynote address at 9:45 a.m.  The first breakout session will begin at 11:00 a.m.  Lunch will be served at 12:15 p.m.  The second breakout session will begin at 1:15 p.m.  The third breakout session will begin at 2:30 p.m.  Reverend Mr. (Deacon) Shelby Friend will provide the closing remarks at 4:00 p.m.  Most Reverend Richard Lennon will preside at the closing liturgy.  Reverend Robert Marva, OFM, Cap., will be homilist at the closing liturgy.
