Faithful in the Diocese of Cleveland are being hailed for their overwhelmingly compassionate support for the retired religious who have served them so faithfully.
The National Religious Retirement Office in Washington reports that the Cleveland Diocese collected $446,735.16 this year for retired religious through the Retirement Fund for Religious. This is an increase of $31,000 over last year.
Capuchin Father William Wiethorn, diocesan delegate for religious, said he is touched by the continued generosity and appreciation of faithful in the Cleveland Diocese.
"I think it's the generosity of people and their awareness of the needs of the older religious of the diocese and country," said Father Wiethorn. "They're aware of the tremendous blessings we've received from the sisters, brothers and priests through whom in Christ has blessed us with knowledge and faith."
The fund helps pay for living and medical expenses of nuns, brothers and priests who are in need in their elder years.
