The Most Reverend A. James Quinn, retired auxiliary bishop, was the principal celebrant at the closing Mass for the Fortnight for Freedom.
A couple hundred faithful joined Bishop Quinn and a number of clergy from the Diocese to pray for the protection of religious freedom.
"We are called by human dignity to defend our faith, but also the right to live our faith. That is, to advocate in public the truths that flow from our faith; to promote social services and other activities in accordance with our beliefs and teachings," said Bishop Quinn.
He also reminded the faithful to, "think not only of the Declaration of Independence, but think of the Beatitudes...not only the good life, but the Gospel life."
The Fortnight 4 Freedom is an effort of the United States Conference for Catholic Bishops (USCCB) to focus on prayer, education, and reflection on our final freedom; freedom of religion in light of the Federal Government's HHS mandate requiring institutions to adapt health care provisions which are objectionable to their religious teachings and beliefs.
