More Than $27,000 to Assist High School and Elementary Students
The Catholic Education Endowment Trust (CEET) has awarded $27,800 to worthy high school and elementary students who are attending Catholic schools in the Diocese of Cleveland. The $2500 scholarships were received by six worthy high school students whose essays, service, grades, and recommendations qualified them. Another 16, 6th and 7th grade elementary school students received $800 each toward this coming year's tuition.
In his remarks to the recipients at 15th annual luncheon, Cleveland Bishop Richard Lennon cited Catholic education as the foundation of their lives going forward. He then reflected on scripture, noting that the words from the Book of Sirach read during the opening prayer service said it so well:
If you wish, you can be taught;
If you apply yourself, you will be shrewd.
If you are willing to listen, you will learn;
If you give heed, you will be wise.
The Bishop added, that in Catholic education, we learn academics, but we also learn about God---and Catholic Schools are not just schools, but family.
The Catholic Education Endowment Trust was established in 1976 by the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland to promote Catholic education, provide support for religious education programs, and to grant tuition-aid scholarships to families with financial need who desire a Catholic education for their children.
