The Reverend John J. Kinkopf, Pastor Emeritus, Saint Joan of Arc Parish, Chagrin Falls died Sunday, 29 September 2013, after having received the prayerful support and consolation of the Sacraments.


John J. Kinkopf was born on 6 April 1923. His parents were the late John J. and Gladys C. (White). He was educated at Our Lady of Peace, Cleveland, Cathedral Latin High School, Oberlin College, St. Meinrad Minor Seminary, Indiana, St. Mary Seminary, Cleveland. On 18 May 1957 in the Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist, Archbishop Edward F. Hoban ordained him to the priesthood for the service of the Diocese of Cleveland.

 

Fr. Kinkopf?s first assignment was as Parochial Vicar of St. Francis, Cleveland. On 14 June 1962 he was appointed Chaplain of Huron Road Hospital and residence at St. Philomena, East Cleveland. Fr. Kinkopf was transferred on 31 March 1973 to serve as Parochial Vicar of St. Justin Martyr, Eastlake. He was transferred and appointed Parochial Vicar of St. Anselm, Chesterland on 27 June 1974. On 1 May 1978 Fr. Kinkopf was appointed Vicar Coadjutor of St. Joan of Arc, Chagrin Falls. On 10 June 1981 he was appointed Pastor of St. Joan of Arc, Chagrin Falls. On 1 September 1988 Fr. Kinkopf was assigned as Senior Parochial Vicar of St. Joan of Arc, Chagrin Falls where he served until his retirement on 5 April 1991.

 

Vespers will be celebrated by Bishop Richard Lennon on Thursday, 3 October in Divine Word Church, 8100 Eagle Road, Kirtland, at 3:00 p.m. The wake will continue until 8:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, 4 October in Divine Word Church at 11:00 a.m. Bishop Roger Gries will be the main celebrant and Fr. Donald Snyder will be the homilist. Interment is at All Souls Cemetery, Chardon.

 

In accord with the provisions of the Marian Pact, please try to attend and concelebrate the Funeral Liturgy, offer Mass for him as you are able and cause him to be remembered and prayed for in the appropriate public prayers of the Church. May Fr. Kinkopf and all our priests, deacons and bishops who have died, live forever in the joy of the Resurrection.
