Take our latest Web Poll regarding Christmas
More than 250 people participated in our recent Diocesan web poll regarding the question: ?Is the Thanksgiving holiday being lost to Commercialism??
The overwhelming result---80%---voted that retail stores should remain closed on the Thanksgiving holiday, preserving the national day for its original intent, to offer thanks for the blessings on our families and our country during the past year. The day is also intended for the gathering of family and friends.
11.2% of the voters offered that stores should wait until after midnight to open on ?Black Friday? and 8.8% said stores should have the freedom to open when they wish.
The poll was intended to gauge reaction from Catholics and others as this year the traditional ?Black Friday? openings were moved into the holiday itself by many major retailers.
