The Reverend Albert J. Tesek, Senior Priest-Retired, died Monday, 16 December 2013, after having received the prayerful support and consolation of the Sacraments.


Albert Joseph Tesek was born on 4 October 1927. His parents were the late Albert and Margaret (Classen). He was educated at St. Ignatius Elementary School, Cleveland, St. Vincent de Paul Elementary School, Cleveland, St. Ignatius High School, Cleveland, Sacred Heart, Detroit and St. Mary Seminary, Cleveland. On 28 April 1951 in the Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist, Archbishop Edward F. Hoban ordained him to the priesthood for the service of the Diocese of Cleveland.


Fr. Tesek's first assignment was as Parochial Vicar of St. Boniface, Cleveland. On 7 June 1956 he was appointed Parochial Vicar of St. Catherine the Great, Cleveland. In addition to this appointment he was appointed Director of the Holy Name Society of the Cleveland East Deanery and Auxiliary Notary of the Diocesan Tribunal. Fr. Tesek was transferred on 8 June 1961 to serve as Parochial Vicar of St. Robert Bellarmine, Euclid. During this time he was also an Instructor in Religion at Borromeo Seminary High School. On 9 June 1966 he was assigned Parochial Vicar at Annunciation, Cleveland. Fr. Tesek was transferred to St. Justin Martyr, Eastlake on 12 September 1967 as Parochial Vicar. In addition to his diocesan assignment, on 26 February 1971 he was appointed to the Diocesan Tribunal as Associate Defender of the Bond.  On 24 June 1971 he was assigned Parochial Vicar of Christ the King, East Cleveland. In addition Fr. Tesek was appointed a confessor for the Borromeo Seminary High School students. On 27 June 1974 Fr. Tesek was appointed a member of the pastoral team to serve St. Monica Parish, Garfield Hts as Co-Pastor and Administrator. He was elected to serve as Dean of the Suburban South East Deanery beginning on 1 December 1974. On 24 June 1980 Fr. Tesek was appointed Co-Director of the Diocesan Clergy Personnel Office and was made Director on 1 August 1980 and in residence at St. Patrick, Bridge. In addition to this assignment he served as Spiritual Director for the Brothers of St. Joseph the Worker. Fr. Tesek was appointed Pro-Synodal Judge for the Diocesan Tribunal on 30 June 1982 and his residence was changed to St. John Cathedral rectory. On 4 November 1982 Fr. Tesek was appointed Secretary for the Services to Clergy and Religious Personnel. On 6 January 1985 he was appointed an ex-officio member of the Council of Priests of the Diocese of Cleveland. 10 March 1986 he served as interim Manager at Issenmann Plaza. He was appointed to the Office of Episcopal Vicar for Religious of the Diocese of Cleveland on 19 March 1986. On 14 June 1989 Fr. Tesek was appointed Parochial Vicar of St. Albert the Great, North Royalton. Fr. Tesek was appointed a member of the College of Consultors on 25 May 1990. On 3 December 1991 he was requested to act as Bishop Pilla's representative to the Board of Advisors for the Center for Pastoral Leadership. Fr. Tesek retired on 4 October 1997.


Vespers will be celebrated by Bishop Roger Gries on Friday, 20 December in St. Albert the Great Church, 6667 Wallings Road, North Royalton at 3:00 p.m. The wake will continue until 8:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, 21 December in St. Albert the Great Church at 11 :00 a.m. Bishop Richard Lennon will be the main celebrant and Fr. Luigi Miola will be the homilist. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Cleveland.


In accord with the provisions of the Marian Pact, please try to attend and concelebrate the Funeral Liturgy, offer Mass for him as you are able and cause him to be remembered and prayed for in the appropriate public prayers of the Church. May Fr. Tesek and all our priests, deacons and bishops who have died, live forever in the joy of the Resurrection.
