The Reverend Harry Winca, Pastor Emeritus, Saint Edward Parish, Parkman, Saint Lucy Mission, Middlefield died Saturday, 15 February 2014, after having received the prayerful support and consolation of the Sacraments.


Harry Stephen Francis Winca was born on 19 May 1917. His parents were the late Frank S. and Rose (Krupar). He was educated at SS. Cyril & Methodius, Lakewood, Cathedral Latin High School, Cleveland, Lakewood High School, Lakewood, St. Procopius College, Lisle, IL and St. Mary Seminary, Cleveland. On 26 May 1945 in the Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist, Archbishop Edward F. Hoban ordained him to the priesthood for the service of the Diocese of Cleveland.

Fr. Winca?s first assignment was as Parochial Vicar of St. Wendelin, Cleveland. On 19 May 1950 he was transferred to St. John the Baptist, Akron to serve as Parochial Vicar. Fr. Winca was appointed Parochial Vicar of SS. Cyril & Methodius, Barberton on 7 January 1955. On 28 November 1958 he was appointed Parochial Vicar of St. Rita, Solon. On 14 June 1962 he was transferred to St. Leo the Great, Cleveland to serve as Parochial Vicar. On 2 April 1968 Fr. Winca was appoint Pastor of St. Edward, Parkman and St. Lucy Mission, Middlefield where he served until his retirement on 19 May 2002. Fr. Winca also served as Dean for Lake and Geauga Counties. He also served as Chaplain for Knights of Columbus St. Patrick Council, Knights of Columbus Valley Council #4893 and Faithful Friar for Knights of Columbus Pope John XXIII Assembly #1765.

 

Vespers will be celebrated by Bishop Roger Gries, main celebrant and Fr. John Burkley, homilist, on Friday, 21 February in St. Edward Church, 16150 Center Street, Parkman, OH 44080, at 3:00 p.m. The wake will continue until 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, 22 February the wake will continue in Assumption Church, 9183 Broadview Road, Broadview Hts., from 9:00 a.m. until 10:55 a.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Bishop A. Edward Pevec will be the main celebrant and Fr. Gregory Olszewski will be the homilist. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Cleveland.

 

In accord with the provisions of the Marian Pact, please try to attend and concelebrate the Funeral Liturgy, offer Mass for him as you are able and cause him to be remembered and prayed for in the appropriate public prayers of the Church. May Fr. Winca and all our priests, deacons and bishops who have died, live forever in the joy of the Resurrection.
