Catholic Action Commission of Lorain County announces award winners to be Honored at 24th Annual Peace & Justice Dinner and Celebration

Lorain, Ohio - The Bishop A.J. Quinn Justice Award and Faithful Servant Award winners have been chosen and will be honored at the Catholic Action Commission of Lorain County?s (CACLC) 24th Annual Peace & Justice Dinner and Celebration at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Road, Lorain 44055, on March 29, 2014 at 6:00 p.m.

The Bishop A.J. Quinn Justice Award, named after auxiliary Bishop of Cleveland and avid supporter of the CACLC who recently passed Oct. 18, 2013, will be presented to Christine Matusik-Plas, parishioner at Our Lady Queen of Peace in Grafton. Matusik-Plas has spent most of her adult life working for the poor and disadvantaged. Currently, she is the Community Impact Associate for the United Way of Greater Lorain County. Years past, Matusik-Plas served on the executive committee for the CACLC, worked in Grants and Development for the Humility of Mary Housing, Inc., and was the Executive Director of the Humility of Mary Housing Development Corporation. She has fully given of her time and talent to every social justice effort she has committed herself to in her career, at her parish, with the CACLC, and with her family.

The Faithful Servant Award will be presented to Fran Edwards, parishioner at St. Peter in North Ridgeville. Edwards helped found Birthright of Lorain County in the late 1960s, was a director from 1993 to 2005, and has volunteered there since then. She is known for valuing every human life and engaging poor, vulnerable, and marginalized populations in a personal way. Edwards welcomed pregnant women who needed a place to stay into her home, handwrote thank you notes to inmates at Grafton Correctional Institute for their donations of baby items, and currently leads the rosary with folks at the Center Ridge Nursing Home.

Reservations for the 24th Annual Peace & Justice Dinner and Celebration are due March 19. Dinner is March 29, social hour at 6pm and dinner at 7pm and includes a Pick ?N Choose Raffle, Quilt Raffle, and 50/50.
