Bishop speaks about God’s bountiful mercy and our need to receive forgiveness – See Video

At his latest bi-monthly lecture series, Bishop Lennon discussed the Sacrament of Penance.

Within his talk Bishop examined the history of the sacrament including its scriptural roots and the evolution of its frequency of reception from forgiveness of sin through Baptism, to a single confession to what we are most familiar with today?frequent reception of the sacrament.

Bishop referred to Pope Francis? remarks on the need for the reception of the sacrament and that the mercy of God is bountiful and is what Jesus intended.

For the past 2 years, the Diocese has held ?An Evening of Confession? in which all of the parishes in the Diocese are open for the Sacrament of Penance during the evening on the first Wednesday of Lent. Bishop spoke about the positive response to this initiative and the need for parishes to hold confession at times that would allow people to receive the sacrament more frequently.

As seen in the video below, during the Q & A following the lecture, Bishop answered the question raised by some about the need to confess to a priest rather than speaking directly to God...

Bishop?s next talk on the Sacrament of Penance will be on Wednesday, May 14th following the 12pm Mass in the cathedral.
