At his latest bi-monthly lecture, Cleveland Bishop Richard Lennon looked in depth at the sacrament of Penance, the two categories of sin, and the need to utilize this opportunity for forgiveness and grace.
The four terms referring to this sacrament include ?penance?, ?reconciliation?, ?confession? and ?conversion?. He explained ?penance? highlights what is received from the sacrament and ?confession? emphasizes the recognition and admittance of our sins. He described the term ?conversion? as an illustration of the transformation from sinfulness to grace that a person experiences through the sacrament.
Bishop explained that ?reconciliation? expresses how the sacrament repairs our broken relationships with God and the Church. The Bishop then provided an example portraying how a person?s sins affect the whole Church.

Bishop also defined the two categories of sin; mortal and venial. He described the difficulty of living with an offense against God using the parable of the Prodigal Son.
