The Reverend James J. Berardi, Senior Priest-Retired, died Friday, 27 June 2014, after having received the prayerful support and consolation of the Sacraments.

James Joseph Berardi was born on 16 March 1933. His parents were the late Joseph A. and Marie (Horst). He was educated at St. Paul Grade School, Akron, St. Vincent High School, Akron, St. Meinrad Minor Seminary, Indiana, Borromeo Seminary College and St. Mary Seminary, Cleveland. On 23 May 1959 in the Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist, Bishop Floyd L. Begin ordained him to the priesthood for the service of the Diocese of Cleveland.

Fr. Berardi?s first assignment was as Parochial Vicar of St. Rose of Lima, Cleveland. On 11 June 1964 he was transferred to serve Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Cleveland (East) as Parochial Vicar. Fr. Berardi was assigned Parochial Vicar of St. Peter, Lorain on 28 October 1964. He was transferred to Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Wickliffe on 5 May 1965 to serve as Parochial Vicar. On 30 September 1969 he was transferred to serve as Parochial Vicar of St. Mary, Akron. Fr. Berardi was transferred on 30 June 1975 to serve as Parochial Vicar of St. Vincent de Paul, Akron. On 30 June 1982 he was assigned Parochial Vicar of Annunciation, Akron. On 6 February 1984 Fr. Berardi was assigned Chaplain of Akron City Hospital, Akron and served until his retirement on 15 December 2007.

Vespers will be celebrated by Rev. A. Jonathan Zingales on Tuesday, 1 July in St. Paul Church, 1580 Brown Street, Akron, OH 44301 at 3:00 p.m. The wake will continue until 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, 2 July in St. Paul Church at 11:00 a.m. Bishop Lennon will be the main celebrant and Rev. Paul J. Rosing will be the homilist. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Akron.

May Fr. Berardi and all our priests, deacons and bishops who have died, live forever in the joy of the Resurrection.
