Devotion to the Holy Eucharist has grown throughout the history of the Catholic Church, said Bishop Richard Lennon during the third installment of a four-part series on the Eucharist.
Bishop explains that Jesus gave us the Blessed Sacrament at the Last Supper as spiritual food that would strengthen us in our journey of life. During Viaticum, a sick person receives Holy Communion as they take their journey from life to death.
Throughout the Church's history, the faithful have wanted to be in the presence of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist and reserved special times and places for exposition and other devotions to the sacrament.
