Bishop Lennon seeks another print alternative to spreading the Good News of the faith within the Diocese of Cleveland
Bishop Richard Lennon, Bishop of Cleveland has announced that production of the print version of the Catholic Universe Bulletin, the official newspaper of the Diocese of Cleveland, will be coming to an end at a yet to be determined date in 2015.
According to Bishop Lennon, ?After serious and lengthy assessment, I wish to inform you that I will soon begin researching an alternative to our 140 year old Diocesan newspaper, the Catholic Universe Bulletin. This is no easy decision but it follows extensive research conducted in conjunction with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops initiative for strategic Diocesan communications planning. Many audiences, including the priests of the Diocese, lay persons, observant Catholics, non-practicing Catholics, Cathedral Square staff, and diocesan lay consultative bodies have concluded that a new form of print publication is needed to serve the Diocese.?
?The profound changes in how people receive their information have had a great bearing on the effectiveness of a bi-weekly newspaper. Much like its secular counterparts, readership has declined and there is no indication suggesting that trend will reverse,? said Bishop Lennon.
?I have engaged a task force comprised of clergy, religious women, lay experts and staff to take on the challenge of recommending an alternative that will not only serve our various Catholic audiences but also be financially viable as well. In addition, this group will make every effort to develop a strategy which respects all technical skill levels and interests,? added Bishop Lennon.
