The Holy See has notified the Diocese of Cleveland that Lawrence Cermak was granted a dispensation from the clerical state.
Lawrence Cermak was removed from active ministry due to a criminal investigation related to financial irregularities as bookkeeper at SS. Peter & Paul parish in Garfield Heights in 2009.
Lawrence Cermak requested dispensation from the Clerical state (once known as laicization) for the good of the Church. Dispensation from the clerical state means that in accord with canon law, Lawrence Cermak is unable to function in any capacity as a deacon anywhere.
