Cemetery Sunday is celebrated in conjunction with All Saints Day and All Souls Day. On All Saints Day, we remember all God?s people who have dwelt on this earth and rejoice in the communion of saints, which all believers share in: All are One in the Spirit. On All Souls Day, we especially remember in prayer and ritual all the dead who have gone before us in wait of the day of final resurrection.
In the tradition of Catholic Cemeteries being places of prayer and comfort, Cemetery Sunday provides us an opportunity to remember our loved ones in Word and Sacrament. Although our hearts are filled with sorrow and grief, may we draw peace and comfort knowing our faithful departed are buried in our Catholic burial tradition. Both in life and in death we belong to the Lord (Romans 14:8).
