The Reverend Alfred H. Winters Senior Priest-Retired died Saturday, 7 November 2015, after having received the prayerful support and consolation of the Sacraments.
Alfred Henry Winters was born on 30 June 1937. His parents were the late Alfred A. and Ruth (Hageman). He was educated at St. Aloysius, Cleveland, St. Joseph High School (2yrs), Borromeo High School (2yrs) St. Meinrad Seminary, Borromeo Seminary College, and the North American College, Rome. On 19 December 1962 in the Ecclesia Christi Regis, Rome, Archbishop Martin O?Connor ordained him to the priesthood for the service of the Diocese of Cleveland.
Fr. Winters first assignment was as Parochial Vicar of Holy Rosary, Cleveland. On 12 September 1967 he was transferred to St. John College, Cleveland to serve as faculty member. In addition to this assignment on 30 September 1969 Fr. Winters was appointed to serve as Parochial Vicar at St. Leo the Great Parish, Cleveland. He was appointed Assistant to the Secretariat for Parish Life and Development on 15 June 1976 with residence at St. Philip Neri Parish, Cleveland and St. Timothy Parish, Garfield Heights. On 1 July 1977 Fr. Winters was appointed Director of the Propagation of the Faith with residence at Borromeo Seminary, Wickliffe. In addition Fr. Winters served as director of the Cleveland Center for Cursillo Movement in 1968. He was appointed Pastor of St. Clement Parish, Lakewood 10 April 1986. Fr. Winters retired on 30 June 2007. In his retirement he faithfully ministered to the residents at Ennis Court, Lakewood and returned often to St. Clement Parish to assist as he was able.
Vespers will be celebrated by Bishop Roger Gries on Tuesday, 10 November in St. Clement Church, 2022 Lincoln Ave., Lakewood, OH, 44107 at 3:00 p.m. Bishop Gries will be the homilist. The wake will continue until 8:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, 11 November 2015 in St. Clement Church at 11:00 a.m. Bishop Richard Lennon will be the main celebrant and Fr. Joseph Workman will be the homilist. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, 10000 Miles Ave, Cleveland, Ohio.
In accord with the provisions of the Marian Pact, please try to attend and concelebrate the Funeral Liturgy, offer Mass for him as you are able and cause him to be remembered and prayed for in the appropriate public prayers of the Church. May Fr. Winters and all our bishops, priests and deacons who have died, live forever in the joy of the Resurrection.
