All are welcome to come and cross over the threshold of the Holy Door during the Year of Mercy. The Cathedral is located at E. 9th Street and Superior Avenue in downtown Cleveland.

All Cathedrals around the world have opened a Holy Door in observance of this ?Year of Mercy? declared by Pope Francis. The Pope is calling everyone to ?Keep alive the desire to know how to welcome the numerous signs of the tenderness which God offers to the whole world and, above all, to those who suffer, who are alone and abandoned, without hope of being pardoned, or feeling the Father?s love.?

Pope Francis also is asking all persons to carry God?s message of mercy to others through Corporal Works of Mercy such as feeding the hungry, visiting the sick, sheltering the homeless, and visiting the imprisoned. Spiritual Works of Mercy include instructing the ignorant, counseling the doubtful, comforting the sorrowful, forgiving all injuries, and praying for the living and the dead.

This Jubilee Year of Mercy is celebrated through November 20, 2016.

The rituals of opening Holy Doors for holy years date as far back as 1499 when a wooden door was opened by Pope Alexander VI on Christmas Eve, beginning the Holy Year 1500.
