Special second collection scheduled for Weekend of January 16-17
On behalf of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, Cleveland Bishop Richard Lennon is asking parishioners across the diocese to come to the aid of those hit hard by severe flooding in Missouri and other nearby states following torrential rains and devastating storms during the holiday season.
Thousands of people are in need of emergency assistance for necessities such as water, food, shelter, and medical care. There will be a long term need to rebuild and recover after the widespread destruction.
Catholic Charities USA, the official domestic relief agency of the U.S. Catholic Church will administrate the relief efforts which will include pastoral and reconstructive needs of the Church.
All parishes are asked to hold a special, second collection on the weekend of January 16-17.
The Bishop asks that all checks from parishioners be made payable to their local parishes with the memo marked 2015-2016 Calamities Special Collection.
