Most Catholics probably are aware of the seven sacraments. It?s likely though that most have not scratched below the surface to really understand them.
Since spring is a common time for celebrating first communion, confirmation, and the sacraments of marriage and Holy Orders, Father Michael Woost, director of liturgy and dean of students at St. Mary Seminary and Graduate School of Theology in Wickliffe, was asked to share some thoughts on the sacraments.
?All of the sacraments are about deepening our participation in God?s life and the life of the Church. Through the Church, we can share in God?s life in a unique way,? he said. ?The sacraments are the action of Christ in His Church through which we become part of God?s life and share in Christ?s saving activity.?
Father Woost said the sacraments fall into three general categories:
