The Holy See has notified the Diocese of Cleveland that David C. Weber is hereby dismissed from the clerical state in response to credible accusations of sexual misconduct involving a minor. He was removed from ministry in 2002. Permanent removal is by decree of the bishop after a canonical administrative process which removed him from the clerical state and confirmed by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith after two appeals by Rev. Weber. Removal from the clerical state means that in accord with canon law David C. Weber is no longer incardinated in the Diocese of Cleveland and he is unable to function in any capacity as a priest anywhere, with the exception of offering, only in an emergency, absolution to the dying.
With deep sorrow for the pain suffered by survivors of abuse due to the action of some members of the clergy, the Diocese of Cleveland continues its commitment to protecting children and helping to heal victims of abuse.
