National Day of Prayer is set for Sept. 9

National Catholic News

August 31, 2016

Archbishop Joseph Kurtz of Louisville, Ky., president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, is calling for a National Day of Prayer on Sept. 9. He said he hopes the event will be one way to ?nurture open, honest and civil dialogue in our communities struggling with violence in many forms,? according to an Aug. 11 letter from Archbishop Wilton Gregory to the bishops of the U.S.

Archbishop Kurtz said the National Day of Prayer is in response to the racial tensions and other tragedies that have occurred in some cities across the country.

In addition, the archbishop announced that he formed a task force to promote peace and unity. Task force members include Archbishop Gregory, chairman; and Archbishop Thomas Wenski, Bishop Shelton Fabre, Bishop John Ricard and Bishop Jaime Soto.
