"Navigating the Black and Blue Lines" will be the topic of a panel discussion at the Dominican Sisters of Peace Motherhouse, 1230 W. Market St., Akron, at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 4.
Three Akron natives, Bertina King, a 25-year Akron Police Department veteran who serves as a detective, Jeff Tyler, a 30-year Akron Police Department veteran who is a training instructor, and Lloyd Ford, a 32-year Akron Police Department veteran who works with the Community Policing Unit, will discuss how they manage their dual roles as members of the African-American community and as police officers with the APD and how they work to meet the challenge of building trust between police and the African-American community.
The panel will be moderated by attorney Edward L. Gilbert, an Akron-based civil rights lawyer, who was instrumental in securing consent decrees with the Akron and Canton police departments.
The event is part of the ongoing series, ?Building Racial Harmony,? sponsored by the Racial Justice Committee of the Dominican Sisters of Peace and Associates.
