Two local Catholic elementary schools receive prestigious national awards

National magazine selects Berea and Brunswick schools for efforts to include autistic students and to aid the homeless

Today?s Catholic Teacher, a national magazine, recognized the Academy of St. Adalbert in Berea and St. Ambrose School in Brunswick as 2017 recipients of the prestigious Innovations in Catholic Education award.

The Academy of St. Adalbert was honored in the curriculum and instruction category for its partnership with the STEPS Center for Excellence in Autism. Through its partnership with STEPS and with the full involvement of the St. Adalbert faculty, an inclusive environment was created to enable students who are on the autism spectrum or who have learning disabilities to be able to practice their Catholic faith and attend general education classes.

St. Ambrose was recognized in the category of promoting Catholic identity for its innovative outreach program to the homeless. Students are developing a homeless mission operations app that will help approximately 200 homeless people who are fed through homeless missions weekly.
