May 17, 2017

The public is invited to attend an informational meeting at 9:30 a.m. May 19 at Holy Name High School, 6000 Queens Highway, Parma Heights, to learn more about Senate Bill 85, which would create the Ohio Opportunity Scholarship program.

If approved, the legislation would provide middle- and low-income families the opportunity to choose a private school for their children?s education. Scholarships would be worth up to $5,000 for elementary school and $7,500 for high school tuition. Families with a household income at or below 400 percent of the poverty level would be eligible. For example, a family of four earning $98,400 would qualify.

State Sen. Matt Huffman, a Republican from Lima, is the bill?s sponsor. He will be at the meeting to answer questions and to talk about how the proposal would increase access to quality education throughout the state.

Christopher Knight, superintendent of Catholic schools in the Diocese of Cleveland, will facilitate the meeting.

School families, parishioners, teachers, school advisory councils, parish finance councils and others are invited to attend the program. To register for the meeting, visit https://cdcohiooppscholarshipsb85.eventbrite.com.
