About 30 news and business administrators, reporters, managers and other employees of WKYC Channel 3, the NBC television affiliate in Cleveland, participated in an informal lunch gathering on Oct. 18 with Cleveland Bishop Nelson Perez at the station.
The event was part of the station?s ?See the Possible? initiative, an ongoing effort to meet and learn about key leaders in Northeast Ohio. The gathering provided a platform for a frank discussion of issues facing the region.
Bishop Perez was asked questions on a number of key issues, including his observations on the state of local Catholic schools, immigration reform, declining church attendance and the role of social media in the Church.
When asked about his first impressions of Northeast Ohio, Bishop Perez said, ?People are very warm here, and they drive slowly,? comparing Cleveland to other large cities in which he has lived.
The bishop thanked the leadership at Channel 3 for the invitation and for their work as journalists, reminding those gathered of the importance of news reporting to a local community.
After lunch, Bishop Perez posed for photos with members of the WKYC team.
